화성 탐사선 Curiosity (STL to NURBS CAD)

아래는 화성 탐사선 Rover Curiosity이며, [from https://science.nasa.gov/] 인터넷 상(NASA홈페이지 등)에서 이 Rover의 3D 데이터는 쉽게 구할 수가 있다. 하지만, CG,Visualization 용도로는 가능할 수 있으나, 매우 불완전하고 거친 Crispy한 매쉬 형태(STL)로서, Water tight 하지 않기 때문에 3D Printing등 어떠한 제조 방법으로의 활용이 불가능하다. 따라서, Geomagic Design X를 이용하여 재 모델링하여 아래와 같은 NURBS형식의 CAD데이터를 만들었으며, 소요시간은 약 25시간 정도가 소요되었고 각 형상 디테일을 Feature modeling 방법을 활용하여 형상화하되,여타 설계 과정과 동일하게 진행 되었다. 어떠한 방식의 제조 방법, 즉 3D Printing, 금형제작을 통한 인젝션몰드 등에서 활용 가능하도록 모델링 되었으며, 동작시뮬레이션등에도 이용 가능하다. This case study showcases the powerful capabilities of reverse engineering for high-performance automotive applications, specifically focusing on a McLaren Formula 1 V12 engine. The primary goal was to create precise, manufacturing-ready CAD models from an already tuned and optimized engine part. The process began by capturing the intricate internal and external geometry of the engine components using a CT scanner. This advanced scanning method ensures that even the most complex inner shapes are accurately digitized. An optical scanner was also used to ensure greater accuracy and verify dimensions. Once the scan data was acquired, it was imported into Geomagic Design X for the core of the reverse engineering work.
